For those of you that have never been on a sports tour, it is one of those events that should most definitely be on your bucket list. Getting on the coach and embarking upon our 36 hour journey to Salou was a sure sign of things to come. Having had two members of the cavalry pass out before we had even left the Midlands after ‘having a beer’ (or twenty..) it was clear.. tour was going to be messy!
Hockey decided the tour theme should be scouts. The idea being that freshers and tour freshers could earn badges along the week, (we were never in a fit state to do this). We all had tour ‘names’ mine being “S*** Fresher” which I spent the whole week determined to change it to “Sick Fresher” as in “Amazing!”
Now tour is all a bit of blur and I’m writing this retrospectively so it’s all a bit fuzzy! I’m probably not selling it very well.. But the overall moral of this story is.. GO ON TOUR!
Two of the days were ‘sports’ days, so we were playing ‘hockey’ against other universities. I say hockey, however it really wasn’t and next year I am definitely not bothering taking my hockey stick! There were a range of ‘sticks’ from brooms, to twigs, to lacrosse sticks and anything and everything else.
The nights rolled on from the sangria days and consisted of pre-shower-pre-drinks, pre-pre drinks, pre-drinks downstairs, down-it-fresher-pre-drinks and about-to-leave-down-your-drinks-pre-drinks and then… OUT!
Although, I can’t reveal everything that happened all I can say is it was such a laugh! A great way to get to know your existing friends better and also make some new friends!
